Writing an exam with all the pressure that the Friends, family, career and society throws at you can be very depressing sometimes. However, knowing how to keep up becomes very important.
A student called me and ask that his blood pressure has gone up because he does not know how to cope with this overwhelming pressure. Even her kids does not want to know that she needs some space despite making it clear.
As a result, I recommended some tips on how to manage his mental alertness so that she won’t go into depression which is now becoming very rampant nowadays.
1. Manage Stress: Don’t let stress get the best of you. Stress can be a major factor in many students’ depression. If you’re feeling stressed out make sure to take a break and set aside time to relax. However, relaxation does not really mean that you sleep all day but Keep in touch with family and friends or build new relationships.
2. Ask for Help: Don’t be afraid to ask for help or let pride control you. Many people feel embarrassed or ashamed to ask for help with their stress but this is unnecessary as it’s a common and treatable problem that you don’t have to deal with alone. Tap into the people around you. For instance, I told the student to ask her husband for help not in a iron clad way (forceful and commanding) but in a subtle and friendly way that will make him willing to help where the need be.
3. Set goals: According to Venus Williams “I don’t focus on what I’m up against. I focus on my goals and I try to ignore the rest. You’ll be more motivated and positive because we a being with purpose. We design to fulfill our purpose in life. So, if you give yourself goals to work towards then your success will be guaranteed.
