Dede asked… “Why can’t I study despite the fact that I really want to?… 4 possible causes

Timothy Here Again,

How was your weekend? Our ICAN May 2021 Support Diet Continues today and I am very much optimistic that they will pass their exams with block-busting questions and answers being treated in the class.

However, I received a phone call from one of our students last Saturday of February 2019. His name is Dede. He complained about his studying habit. In Dede’s exact word:

“Why can’t I study despite the fact that I really want to? Every time I start studying I waste my time doing anything else, please help.”

I gave him 4 possible reasons why he couldn’t study with full focus.

So, I don’t really know how many students might be having this issue, so I decided to share it with you. They include:

Reason #1. Everything seems to distract you. It’s super tough to focus on what we’re currently doing because our attention moves onto random little things around us. Here’s an example—multitasking, Facebook, WhatsApp to check status etc

Reason #2. There’s a lot of noise around you at all times. For most of us, our home and work environment is far from ideal for focusing, especially when it comes to mentally challenging tasks like reading new material and writing longer passages of text. It’s all a matter of getting creative with overcoming this challenge.

Reason #3. You’re not being as mindful as you’d like to be. By now you know that studying feels very much like having a full-time job. You need to work for weeks at a time to prep for exams, the assignments seem endless, and you often lose focus or get distracted with just about anything. A noisy street, a friend calling you to join them for a chat, Owambe, boys out, girls out.

Reason #4. Despite your best intentions, your mind is just not in it. Sure, you say that of course, you want to get on with your studies, qualify and get that beautiful dream job. But it’s one thing to just say what you want, and totally another to make the connection with the original why of your actions.

If you get your mind on board with what you’re about to do at the beginning of your study day, you can boost your motivation to keep going until you start seeing tangible results.

After raising the above constraint, I recommended that he should:

  1. Get his simplified and comprehensive Lecture Videos ➕ Q&A.
  2. Study for at least 1 hour daily
  3. He must follow my daily tips which will serve as food for his mind. It will also put him through, on how to overcome the above constrain.
  4. Participate in the Support class.
  5. Solve questions and answers in both Videos and membership site
  6. He should not lose focus on his chief definite aim – An inducted ACA.

Dede qualified March/July 2020 Diet. Although it was not easy for him, at least he is on the other side of his goal.
